PRESS RELEASE
On December 16, 2025, at approximately 6:07 AM, Curry County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to the intersection of Curry Road 4 and U.S. Highway 70, South of Clovis, NM, regarding a motor vehicle crash with injuries.
A Curry County Deputy investigated the crash. It was determined that Rogelio Velasquez, the 3rd (24; Bovina, TX) was traveling eastbound on Curry Road 4 in a white Hyundai and entered the intersection with U.S. Highway 70. Velasquez's vehicle pulled in front of a white Chevrolet pick-up traveling southbound on US Highway 70, driven by Larry Horval (19; Copperas Cove, TX). The vehicles collided, ejecting Velazquez from his vehicle. Evidence left at the scene indicated that Velasquez was subsequently struck by a passing vehicle. The vehicle that struck Velasquez continued traveling away after the collision.
A 4th vehicle, driven by Diane John (77; East Bethel, MN) entered the scene and struck the Hyundai after attempting to avoid the crash.
The Clovis Fire Department treated Velasquez at the scene and transported him to Plains Regional Medical Center in Clovis. Velasquez later died as a result of his injuries.
The circumstances of this crash remains under investigation by the Curry County Sheriff’s Office. Attempts to identify and locate the vehicle that left the scene are ongoing.
New Mexico State Police assisted in this investigation.
