PRESS RELEASE
Big Brady Bag-Up a GREAT Success in Curry County
The first-ever Big Brady Bag-Up, held on April 18, was a resounding success, bringing together local youth and community members to make a visible impact along Brady Avenue.
Made possible through funding from the NMDOT Que Linda Grant Program, the event supported community-driven efforts to promote a cleaner, more beautiful Curry County. The cleanup was also part of the statewide Great New Mexico Clean Up, in connection with the “Breaking Bad Habits” campaign.
Five youth groups and a total of 77 volunteers participated in the cleanup effort. In just two hours, volunteers collected 102 bags of trash, totaling an impressive 1,540 pounds of litter removed from the area.
Outstanding efforts were recognized with awards for participating groups. CHS FCCLA earned first place after collecting 34 bags of trash. Their dedication and hard work earned them the Top Trash Collector & Clean Champion Award. Yucca Middle School Student Council was awarded second place and received the Community Champion Award in recognition of their leadership and teamwork throughout the event, and collected 25 bags of trash.
The event also marked the official debut of the county’s beautification program mascot, Clara the Clean Cow, who was a hit with attendees and will be featured at future events.
A special thank you goes out to all participating youth groups, volunteers, and partners whose efforts are helping keep Curry County clean, safe, and beautiful.
