Residents Reminded to Practice Fireworks Safety and Help Reduce Strain on Emergency ServicesCLOVIS, NM (June 29, 2026) – As fireworks celebrations increase during the holiday season, Curry County and the City of Clovis urge residents to use extreme caution when handling fireworks and to prioritize safety for themselves, their families, and the community.Each year, fireworks-related injuries lead to emergency room visits across the country, placing additional strain on hospitals, emergency responders, and healthcare staff. Common injuries include burns, eye injuries, hand trauma, and fires caused by improper use or malfunctioning fireworks. “Our emergency responders and healthcare professionals work tirelessly to protect our community,” said Clovis’ Fire Chief. “By practicing fireworks safety, residents can help prevent avoidable injuries and reduce unnecessary pressure on local hospitals and emergency services.” Curry County and the City of Clovis encourage residents to follow these important safety tips: • Never allow young children to handle fireworks • Keep a bucket of water or hose nearby • Use fireworks only in approved areas and during permitted times • Never relight malfunctioning fireworks • Stay a safe distance away after lighting fireworks • Avoid using fireworks while under the influence of alcohol or drugs • Properly dispose of used fireworks by soaking them in water before discarding Residents are also encouraged to attend organized public fireworks displays conducted by trained professionals whenever possible. In addition to personal injuries, fireworks can contribute to fires, property damage, and increased emergency calls that divert resources from other critical needs within the community. |
