Curry County Detention Center is located in Clovis, New Mexico and provides detention services for Curry County and City of Clovis Law Enforcement Agencies.

Mission Statement

The mission of the Curry County Adult Detention Center is to ensure the safety of the public by providing a safe, secure, and humane environment for all detainees placed in our custody by the courts, while providing excellent customer service to the public and all participating agencies.

The adult detention center has a staff of 65 full-time positions, which include administrative and security personnel. In addition to county employees, there are contract personnel in the medical, mental health, kitchen and commissary departments

  • Housing
    • Built in 1993, the main facility was designed with 208 beds on the original plan.  In 2020 there were new upgrades to the detention center.  The facility consists of a two-story linear building with masonry siding.   The Curry County Adult Detention Center has 262 beds, the design includes a medical area, booking, sally-port, kitchen, laundry, visitation, exercise, and multipurpose areas.   Detainees are housed in 10 secure housing units. Most detainees share a cell with three other detainees.
  • Population
    • Within the last Fiscal Year 2024, Curry County Detention Center booked in 1,973 detainees and the average daily population was 178 detainees.   Most of the detainees are pre-trial detainees.  Detainees are also occasionally housed in the neighboring counties of Roosevelt, Bailey, and Parmer to help reduce overcrowding or to aid in proper classification.

  • Detention Accreditation
    • Curry County Detention Center is fully accredited with the New Mexico Counties Professional Detention Standards Council which consists of adhering to 191 mandatory detention standards. Curry County also adheres to the American Corrections Association’s Adult Local Detention Standards.

Juvenile Detention Center

As a result of declining Statewide and Curry County Juvenile Arrests, as well as both a Juvenile Detention trend and a fiscal concern, Curry County Commissioners voted in April of 2020 to close the Juvenile Detention Center.  As a result, all Curry County Juvenile Detainees are housed in approved and certified contracted Juvenile Detention Centers outside of Curry County.

Once a Curry County Juvenile is detained and arrested, local law enforcement will transport the juvenile detainee to the nearest contracted juvenile detention center until a juvenile is arraigned in Curry County District Court and recommended for release.
