The deadline to register or update voter registration, online or by-mail, for this election is Tuesday, May 5.
New Mexico is a semi-open primary state. After the registration deadline, voters registered with a major party (Democratic or Republican) must vote in their own party’s primary. Same Day Voter Registration may only be used to update their address.
Voters registered with a minor party (Green or Libertarian) must change their party affiliation to a major party using Same Day Voter Registration if they wish to vote in a major party primary.
Unaffiliated or “Declined-to-State” (DTS) voters —often referred to as Independent voters— may choose to participate in either major party primary without changing their voter registration.
Same-day voter registration (SDR) is available during Early Voting and on Election Day. Qualified electors may register to vote or update an existing voter registration in person only and must provide identification as required by law. The process typically takes approximately 20 minutes to complete; however, processing times may vary, so please plan accordingly.
Sample ballots, specific to precinct and party, may be obtained in the Curry County Clerk's or viewed online at nmvote. org. We expect to have those prepared mid-April.
Absentee voting begins Tuesday, May 5. To receive a ballot, you must submit an application by the May 19 deadline. Applications are available at the Curry County Clerk’s Office, by phone request, or online at nmvote.org. Voters on the Voluntary Permanent Absentee Voter List will receive their ballots automatically and do not need to reapply. Absentee Ballots must be returned in the proper envelope to the Clerk’s Office no later than 7:00pm on Election Day, June 2.
