Preventing substance use and promoting behavioral health through community collaboration and strategic coordination.
Hidden in Plain Sight
"Hidden in Plain Sight" is a substance use prevention campaign that aims to raise awareness of teen substance use by shedding light on the subtler indicators of substance abuse that may otherwise go unnoticed. Our project will educate parents, caregivers, and community members on how to recognize and address potential drug and alcohol use among youth.
Curry County’s "Hidden in Plain Sight" campaign utilizes an interactive mobile display to highlight common household items that can be used to conceal or consume drugs, emphasizing the importance of vigilance and open communication in preventing substance misuse.
This campaign will empower individuals to identify substance use and intervene early. To seek help and support those struggling with addiction.

Prevention Education for Middle/High Schoolers
SAFETY FIRST: Substance Prevention (Middle/High School)
Safety First, substance prevention curriculum, is a comprehensive program designed to educate young people about the risks associated with substance use and empower them to make informed and responsible decisions regarding drugs and alcohol. The curriculum focuses on harm reduction strategies, emphasizing the importance of personal safety and well-being above all else. Through interactive activities, discussions, and skill-building exercises, participants learn about the effects of substance abuse, how to recognize risky situations, and develop practical refusal skills. By promoting open dialogue and providing evidence-based information, the Safety-First curriculum aims to equip youth with the knowledge and tools necessary to resist peer pressure, make healthy choices, and protect themselves from the potential harms of substance misuse.
Safety First is an 8-week program available for free to youth in 6th-12th grade. This class is offered from 4:30pm – 5:30pm every Monday at Curry County Grants Office (818 N Main St. Clovis, NM. 88101). Register your student HERE.

Curry County Substance Use and Behavioral Health Coalitions
Under its newly awarded SPF PAVIS grant, Curry County’s Substance Use Behavioral Health Coalition (SUBH) aims to prevent the onset and reduce the progression of marijuana and opioid use, while promoting behavioral health.
According to recent data, youth and young adults aged 11-24 show the greatest need for support for substance use and mental health. Therefore, we have prioritized youth and adults ages 11-24 located within Curry County as the focus of our prevention efforts.
Curry County SUBH Coalition commits to collaborating with community-based organizations, law enforcement, Curry County municipal schools, advisory committees, local leaders, parents and community members to understand the unique needs of the community, gain trust, and enhance outreach efforts. We ask you to join us in addressing Substance Use and Behavioral Health Crisis within our community.
